Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how The Crosswire Daily (“Crosswire Daily,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with thecrosswiredaily.com, our newsletters, and related services (collectively, the “Services”), and the choices available to you.

1. What Information Do We Gather About You?

1(A) Information Collected Through the Services

i. Information You Voluntarily Give Us:

• Newsletter and account registration. If you subscribe to a Crosswire Daily newsletter or, in the future, register for an account, we collect your email address and any other information you choose to provide.

• User-generated content. Comments, tips, photos, or other material you submit to us, as described in our Terms and Conditions.

• Contests, promotions, and financial incentives. If we ever run a contest, sweepstakes, or promotional offer, we will separately disclose what information is collected and, where required by law, the value of any incentive offered in exchange for your data.

• Reader surveys and feedback programs. If we invite you to participate in a reader survey or feedback panel, we collect the responses and any demographic information you choose to share.

• Contact with our editorial or customer-care desks. When you email editorial@, corrections@, advertise@, privacy@, or [email protected], we collect your contact information and the content of your message.

ii. A Note About Sensitive Personal Information

We do not seek to collect sensitive personal information — such as government identification numbers, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, health information, or account login credentials for other services — except where you voluntarily provide it (for example, in the body of a news tip) or where a specific feature discloses otherwise at the point of collection.

iii. Information Collected Automatically

• Identifiers and device information: IP address, device identifiers, browser type, operating system.

• Geolocation information: general location derived from IP address; we do not collect precise GPS-level location.

• Usage data: pages and galleries viewed, time spent, referring and exit pages, click patterns, and interaction with newsletters and emails.

• Cookies and similar technologies, which fall into four categories:

1(B) Inferences and Information We Create

We may generate inferences about your likely interests or readership patterns based on the information described above, in order to improve and personalize the Services.

1(C) Information Collected From Other Sources
• Social media platforms, if you interact with our content or log in using social media credentials.
• Advertising and analytics partners, including Google Ad Manager and the MSN Partner Hub, which may provide aggregated data about how our content performs when syndicated.
• Publicly and commercially available sources, as permitted by law.

2. Notice at Collection: Categories, Sources, and Purposes

The table below summarizes, for each category of personal information described in Section 1, where it comes from, why we use it, and whether it is disclosed for cross-context behavioral advertising (which some state laws classify as a “sale” or “sharing” — see Section 5(B)).

3. What Do We Do With the Information We Collect?

• Provide the Services — operate, maintain, and secure the Services and deliver the content you request.
• Personalize your experience — tailor content recommendations and newsletter content to your interests.
• Allow sharing of user-generated content — publish tips, comments, or submissions you’ve agreed to share.
• Develop our product and conduct analysis — understand readership trends across our beats (US Politics and Governance, World, Money, Technology, Health, and Opinion) and improve the Services.
• Administrative and legal tasks — secure our systems, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
• Personalized advertising and third-party audiences — we and our advertising partners (Google Ad Manager, MSN Partner Hub) may use your information to deliver and measure targeted advertising, including per-slide gallery ad impressions.
• Advertise and market to you — send newsletters and promotional communications you have opted into.
• Aggregate and de-identify data — we may aggregate or de-identify information so it no longer identifies you, and use it for any business purpose.

4. To Whom Do We Disclose or Share Information?

(A) Within the Company: The Crosswire Daily is the sole publisher and controller of information collected through the Services.

(B) With Service Providers: Vendors who perform services on our behalf — such as email delivery, hosting, and analytics — under instructions limiting their use of your information to providing those services.

(C) With Other Third Parties:
• Advertising partners, including Google Ad Manager and the MSN Partner Hub, which may independently collect or receive information via cookies or similar technologies. Under some state laws, this may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — see Section 5 for your opt-out rights.

• Affiliate partners. Certain articles, advertisements, or designated ad placements on the Services may contain affiliate links or affiliate-tracked banners. If you click one of these and complete a purchase, sign-up, or other qualifying action, the affiliate partner (or their tracking network) may set a cookie or use a similar identifier to record the referral, and we may earn a commission. This is separate from, and in addition to, the advertising partners identified above. Affiliate placements are visually distinguished from our editorial content and, where they appear within an article rather than a designated ad slot, are labeled to disclose the relationship.

• Syndication partners. When our galleries are distributed through our syndication partner Hubs, their services receive content and associated performance/advertising data under its own terms and privacy practices.

• Legal and safety authorities, to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Crosswire Daily, our readers, or the public.

• A successor entity, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets involving The Crosswire Daily.

5. What Are Your Rights and Choices?

5(A) In General

• Communications preferences. You may unsubscribe from newsletters and marketing email at any time using the link in those emails.

• Access, correction, and deletion. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing [email protected]

• Browser and platform controls. You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Where legally required, we recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, consistent with common industry practice, as no uniform standard has been adopted.

• Opt out of targeted advertising and affiliate tracking. You may opt out of interest-based advertising and affiliate-referral cookies through the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info), the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org), or Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), or by declining “Advertising” and “Affiliate” cookies through your browser or our cookie controls.

5(B) California Privacy Notices and Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or comparable state laws, including the right to:
• Know what personal information we have collected, used, and disclosed about you
• Correct inaccurate personal information
• Delete personal information we have collected from you
• Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
• Limit the use of sensitive personal information
• Designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

6. How Long Do We Retain Data?

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, satisfy legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements, after which we delete or de-identify it. As a general guide: correspondence and news-tip records are retained for the life of any related editorial process plus a reasonable follow-up period; newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe or your address becomes undeliverable; affiliate-referral data is retained for the period needed to attribute and reconcile commissions with our affiliate partners, consistent with those partners’ own retention practices; and aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely once de-identified.

7. How Do We Protect Your Information?

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for any Crosswire Daily account.

8. Are There Guidelines for Children?

The Services are directed to a general adult news audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we learn we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it.

9. How Is Information Transferred Internationally?

The Services are operated from the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored here. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States, which may have different data protection standards than your home jurisdiction. Crosswire Daily’s editorial focus and initial distribution are US-oriented, and we do not currently expect material EEA/UK readership.

10. What Is Our Legal Basis for Processing?

Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing (for example, for EEA or UK residents), we rely on: performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services (balanced against your rights), compliance with legal obligations, and your consent where required.

11. What About Third-Party Services?

The Services may link to, or display content and advertising from, third-party sites and platforms — including our advertising partner Google Ad Manager, our affiliate partners, and our syndication partners — that are outside our control. This Policy does not govern, and we are not responsible for, those third parties’ privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies directly.

12. How Are Changes to This Policy Communicated?

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will reflect material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date above and, where the change is significant, by providing additional notice (such as an on-site notice or email) before the change takes effect.

13. How Can You Contact Us? Who Is the Controller of Your Personal Information?

The Crosswire Daily is the controller of personal information collected through the Services.
